A free classroom timer for the board: split a lesson into timed stages, show the class what to do in big letters and set a traffic light for the noise level. The countdown fills the screen as soon as the page opens, with digits you can read from the back of the room and the time of day in the corner.

01 Stages

Lesson stages

A lesson timer works best when it follows the shape of the lesson. Press Lesson stages and list its parts, up to 12, each with a name and 1 to 180 minutes, or start from an example: Do now 5 · Work 20 · Share 10 · Pack up 3, or Quiz 10 · Review 15.

Press Start, and the line above the digits says where the class is, such as Stage 2 of 4 · Work, with a dot for every stage. At each bell the next stage starts on its own, so nobody has to walk to the computer, and the whole lesson goes to your log as one session.

02 The class

Instruction line and traffic light

Above the digits, one line of instruction in large letters tells the class what to do: Silent work, Whisper, Ask a neighbour, Pack up, Break, or your own words, up to 40 characters.

A traffic light in the corner shows the noise level at a glance: many teachers use red for silence, yellow for quiet talk and green for group work. The line, the light and the clock stay on the screen while the buttons fade.

03 The board

Projector, sound, keys

Open the page on the computer of the projector or the interactive board and press F: the timer for the classroom fills the screen, browser bars and all. While a stage runs, the buttons fade until you move the mouse.

Each stage ends with a bell, a wood block, a chime or silence. Space starts or pauses, R resets, N moves on, 1, 2 and 3 switch the light, and F fills the screen.

Need less on the screen? The fullscreen timer is one big countdown, and the visual timer shows the time left as a disc that shrinks. For work and rest in rounds, try the break timer.

04 Sets

Save your lesson sets

Teach the same lessons every week? Sign in, then press Save as a set in Lesson stages and name the lesson, such as Period 3 · Lab.

Your sets wait under My sets on every computer where you sign in: press Start to run one, or rename or delete it. Signing in is free during Pro early access; the timer works without it.

06 FAQ

Questions about the classroom timer

What is a classroom timer?

A big countdown on the board that the whole class can read. This one also runs a lesson in timed stages, with a line of instruction, a traffic light and the clock.

Does it go to the next stage by itself?

Yes. When a stage ends, the bell rings and the next one starts at once. Press N or Next stage to move on early; Undo brings the stage back.

How many stages can a lesson have?

Up to 12, each from 1 to 180 minutes, with a name of up to 40 characters. One stage without a name is a plain countdown.

What happens if the laptop goes to sleep?

The timer counts from the moment you pressed Start, so the stages keep to the clock: when the page wakes up, it shows the stage that should be running and its time left.

Does it work on an interactive whiteboard or a TV?

Yes, in any modern browser. Press F to fill the screen; on an iPhone the timer fills the browser window instead. While a stage runs, the screen stays on.

Do my students need an account?

No. It is a timer for teachers: nobody has to sign in, and the page never asks for the names of your students.

Is the classroom timer free?

Yes. It is free, with no ads and no sign-up, and it works offline once you have opened it.
