01 Timing

Digital SAT timing, module by module

The SAT is taken in the Bluebook app in two sections, Reading and Writing and then Math. Each section is split into two modules of equal length, and each module has its own clock: once you move on, you can’t go back. The first module of a section mixes easy, medium and hard questions; how you do on it decides whether the second module is harder or easier.

03 FAQ

Questions about the SAT timer

How long is the digital SAT?

2 hours 14 minutes of testing: Reading and Writing takes 64 minutes in two 32-minute modules, and Math takes 70 minutes in two 35-minute modules. A 10-minute break between the sections comes on top.

Is there a break on the SAT?

Yes, one 10-minute break between Reading and Writing and Math. There is no scheduled break between the two modules of a section, so the timer goes on to the second module at once.

Does this SAT timer adapt like the real test?

No, it only keeps time. On the real test, how you do on the first module of a section decides whether its second module is harder or easier; with a practice test, simply take its modules in order.

Can I time only the Math section?

Yes. Before you press Start, choose Math, Module 1 in the list under the timer. The timer begins there, and only the modules you take are saved to your log.

Is this the official SAT timer?

No. Study Tally is an independent study site, not affiliated with or endorsed by College Board. The timing comes from College Board’s description of the digital SAT, checked on Oct 8, 2026.
