01 How to

How to use the grade calculator

  1. List the parts of your grade

Add a row for each assignment or category from your syllabus: homework, quizzes, tests, labs.

  2. Enter grades and weights

Type each grade and its weight in percent. A comma works as the decimal point too.

  3. Read your grade

02 By hand

How to calculate a weighted grade

A weighted grade counts each part by its share of the class: a midterm worth 25% moves your grade more than quizzes worth 15%. Multiply each grade by its weight, add the results and divide by the total weight. For the example above:

AssignmentGradeWeightGrade × weight
Homework95%20%1,900
Quizzes88%15%1,320
Midterm82%25%2,050
Lab reports91%15%1,365
Total75%6,635

6,635 ÷ 75 = 88.47%, a B+ so far. The final exam is the other 25%: work out what you need on the final to keep that grade or raise it.

03 Scale

Percentages and letter grades

The calculator turns your percentage into a letter by the common US cutoffs:

Letter gradePercentage
A+97–100%
A93–96%
A−90–92%
B+87–89%
B83–86%
B−80–82%
C+77–79%
C73–76%
C−70–72%
D+67–69%
D63–66%
D−60–62%
Fbelow 60%

Teachers and schools set their own cutoffs, and some give an A from 90%. Check your syllabus for the letter on your report card.

Raise your grade where it counts

The parts with the biggest weights move your grade most, so give them your study time first. Short, timed sessions with a Pomodoro study timer make it easier to start, and every session lands in your log.

05 FAQ

Questions about grades

How do I calculate my grade?

Multiply each grade by its weight, add the results and divide by the sum of the weights. The calculator does it as you type and shows the letter next to it.

How do I calculate weighted grades when the weights don’t add up to 100%?

Divide by the weights you have. With 75% of the class graded, the result is your grade so far: the parts still to come can raise it or lower it.

What percentage is an A, a B or a C?

Commonly 93% and up is an A, 83–86% a B and 73–76% a C, with plus and minus grades between them. Your teacher may draw the lines elsewhere.

Can a grade be above 100%?

Yes, with extra credit: the calculator takes grades up to 150%.

Are my grades saved?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and keeps nothing, not even on this device: reload the page and it starts again with the example.
